The extensive period property above is a grade II listed building. We recently manufactured and installed six new sash windows and upgraded ten more. To comply with local listed building regulations, we used slimline double-glazed units for all glazings. Traditional windows make an essential contribution to the significance of historic buildings. So we always strive to replicate the original historic wooden windows whilst adding double-glazed units to improve thermal efficiency and internal comfort levels.
Timber Durability and Longevity
The window frames and sliding sashes are in Accoya timber. Accoya provides the best value for money because of its durability and guaranteed longevity. To understand more about the importance of Accoya timber and its green credentials, it is worth taking a few minutes to watch the short VIDEO on our website.
Painting Wooden Windows
The wooden window frames and sliding sashes were spray-painted at our Kirby Misperton workshop in North Yorkshire. We paint woodwork during our integrated manufacturing process. Painting wooden products (during manufacture) makes sense because the exposed wood is sealed and weather-protected before installation.
We continue to provide a specialist sash window service in York and the surrounding areas. We are joinery manufacturers and installers. Consequently, we only produce wooden products, and our preferred timber is Accoya. We have a short video on our website that explains the longevity and sustainability of Accoya timber.
Free E-Book – Sash Window Upgrades
Andrew has written an E-book that explains the Ryedale Joinery approach to upgrading timber sash windows. The topics covered include double glazing, thermal efficiency, safety glass, spiral balance systems, and our in-house spray painting during the manufacturing process. We manufacture all types of timber windows, and can replicate any historical wooden window styles for listed properties. Given that our joinery workshop is located close to York, Scarborough and Whitby, we are frequently asked to manufacture and install wood sash windows for customers with Georgian and Victorian window types.
Our customers are often surprised when we explain that it is possible to manufacture double-glazed sash windows in wood. So, there is no need to let your love of traditional timber windows keep you in the cold – let Ryedale Joinery upgrade your sash windows.
The image above shows a bay containing three separate sash windows. We manufactured the new sashes in Accoya® timber and upgraded the windows. The upgrade included our full double glazing package, spiral balances, seals and brushes. We also spray painted the woodwork in our own painting facility as part of the manufacturing process. Our sash window upgrades improve thermal efficiency and make the interior more comfortable. Ryedale Joinery sash window upgrades are available for all types of sash window, regardless of age or architectural style.

The above image illustrates some of the sash windows we recently upgraded for a customer at York. The windows are double-glazed with quality 14mm Planitherm sealed units. We also fitted spiral balance systems, and seals and brushes to the window frames, jambs and meeting rails in order to minimize heat loss. Accoya® timber was used to manufacture the new sashes. We spray painted the new sashes in our own painting facility.
